Humane has finally revealed the name of its smartphone-replacing wearable AI projector, the Ai Pin (yes, for some reason, AI is written with a lowercase “i”), and reiterated that it will go on sale “later this year.”

For what purpose? The Ai Pin is described in Humane’s press release as a “connected and intelligent clothing-based wearable,” which suggests that it is intended to be fastened to clothing. The most apparent option for fastening it to your clothing would be magnets.

With the announcement of the device’s official name, Humane also released the teaser image shown above with the slogan “Take Ai with you everywhere.” The “screenless, seamless, and sensing” AI-powered device’s top portion is visible in the photograph, along with what looks to be some sort of light strip that, when turned on, lights.

Imran Chaudhri, chairman and president of Humane, demonstrated the Ai Pin in an April TED Talk. The Ai Pin can be seen here, with its voice assistant speaking and translating, camera analysing text on a candy bar, and phone interface being projected onto the palm of his hand while it is in his jacket’s breast pocket.

The following tweet by Chaudhri included projected text on a user’s palm:

That is the only new information the corporation has provided regarding the Ai Pin. According to Chaudhri and his co-founder and CEO Bethany Bongiorno in the news release, “Our Ai Pin presents an opportunity for people to take AI with them everywhere and to unlock a new era of personal mobile computing that is seamless, screenless, and sensing.”

The price of the Humane Ai Pin is yet unknown. I have predicted that we should be prepared to pay a high price – imagine premium phone pricing, or perhaps even phone-priced.
